안녕하세요? My name is Courtney and I live in Seoul! I moved to Seoul in early 2021 to teach English to some really cute tiny humans. I’m originally from America (born and raised in Kansas and moved to Los Angeles eight years ago) and lived in London for a year, too.
For a year (or two) prior to my move Seoul, I began casually learning Korean. I would listen to a lot of Korean songs (from artists like Crush, Sam Kim, Jeebanoff, Dean, G. Soul, and so on), watch all of the Korean dramas that I could, and enrolled in a couple of Korean courses. I kept feeling like I wasn’t progressing too much. It was hard for me to really absorb a language when I wasn’t not immersed it.
Now that I’m in Korea where the Korean language is definitely all around, I find that I am woefully unprepared to communicate with locals in their native language. So I figured that maybe I should learn Korean. Like, really learn it. And now is as good of time as any to buckle down and really try improving with speaking the language. To kickstart what feels like my daunting journey, I signed up with an awesome tutor here through an awesome company here in Seoul called Hola Korean. They’ve really helped me improve with speaking Korean. I try to be better than I was the day before and I’m seeing some progress!
This site is dedicated to my studies in Korean and having one central place where I can go back to and refer to things that I’ve learned. Also, when I type down what I’m learning it helps to reinforce it in my head. If other people can read it and learn things from it too, then that’s a huge bonus! As I’m not that great at speaking yet, please correct any errors that you see because I’m sure there will be some 🙂
